538 Great King Motel started its life with a major refurbishment. The former Cargill's Hotel closed its doors in July 2015, and from the distinct physical structure that was the Great King Street entrance to the old hotel came a very clear vision and personality of what is now the modern and sleek 538 Great King Motel. From its large and welcoming reception area, to the well-appointed rooms in the accommodation block and even the onsite café that was created to complement the motel. All of the old Cargills units were completely gutted, and the property morphed, reshaped and revitalised into this fresh, modern and comfortable motel. Warm and quiet with enviable bathroom facilities and peaceful surrounds, our motel units provide a sanctuary where you can relax and get a good night’s sleep. 538 Great King is simply the best 4 Star motel in Dunedin!

Fancy a coffee, or a cooked breakfast, a sneaky treat or lunchtime meal? Oaken Café, right here in our carpark is the place to go. Let Linda and her team treat you with fabulous fare, fine coffee and in Linda's own words; "Bowls of deliciousness!".

If you prefer to eat in your motel room, then no worries - place your order with reception by 7.30 pm for breakfast by room service the following morning. We'll deliver your breakfast fresh from Oaken's kitchen straight to your room.
